Thin Line

After a particularly long night of studying in the education centre at the hospital, I contemplated sleeping over there - knowing that if I were to go home, I would simply be turning around and coming back in the morning (there were even clean scrubs I could use as pajamas!). My friend turned to me and said "Rachel, you can't sleep here. That crosses the fine line between sad and pathetic".

Amen.

Random Rachel, I can really relate.

"You can't sleep here. That crosses the fine line between sad and pathetic," I remember the first time I was told that.

    By my parents.

Well, upon further reflection I may have told myself that.

Or maybe my girlfriend told me that. Whatever.

I remember one night when I was a resident, and I was working the delivery room (not for packages, for babies). I was so tired and the woman had been in labor for hours already. I told the nurse to come wake me up when the baby was crowning, and went to sleep in the the room next door, which was empty. Do you know those satisfying sleeps that are so good that when you wake up you are sweating? Well, I had one of those; the room was so comfortable that when the nurse woke me up I was drenched. I rushed into the room and delivered the baby. Only later did I find out that I had been sleeping so deeply that the nurse had dumped a bucket of water on me.
